My Coaching Philosophy

My coaching philosophy:

💪🏼While adopting proper fundamental movement skills…

  • FMS - fundamental movement skills consist of those actions the body is asked to participate in and repeat constantly throughout the day - we are building a base of movement knowledge that we can then grow from as we progress - ie. squats, running/skipping/jumping, balance, coordination, proprioception (awareness of your body in space).

💪🏼making them a habit…

  • we begin forming habits the second we are born, largely influenced by the humans and world around us - what they say, their mannerisms, how they make decisions, their facial expressions, what they wear, their accent, the way they move - forming good movement habits can be one of the most satisfying habits to change, as you are getting both the physical and mental aspects to align in order to achieve success

  • although it might be easier to change habits when we are younger “fresh” as we so often hear it referred to, it is never impossible to change a habit (excluding structural deviations that occur from certain longstanding habits)

💪🏼forming good muscle memory…

  • as we form good habits, our muscles begin to remember the way we are asking them to move, function, and react to a stimulus - the same way our parents repeated “mama” or “dada” to us as infants, trying to get us to repeat after them, we need that same sort repetition in movement in order to gain muscle memory - muscle memory means those habits have now become natural for us and occur without much or any cueing or thought

💪🏼and instilling cognitive mind-body connection…

  • committing something to muscle memory requires a level of focus that goes beyond listening to a teacher or reading a book - in movement, the neurological pathways between our brain and our muscles have to be involved in the process - this is where we see both the physical AND mental aspects come into play…with higher levels of awareness of one’s body, each point mentioned above will happen at a faster rate

🧠My goal as a sports performance coach is to provide athletes with the tools necessary to problem solve when they’re out there on their own. I want to be sure that athletes are equipped to trust themselves and the work we have put in together. Although there is always room for growth and improvement, making sure an athlete isn’t reliant on me is my number on priority.

👊🏼Moving efficiently comes with an understanding and awareness of what that feels like in your body.
One of my favorite moments is watching my athletes get to this place. Watching them sink into their body. Listening to them be able to tell me what tweaks they might need to make to an exercise or drill in order to really FEEL fast/strong/explosive/powerful, etc.

if you couldn’t tell, I absolutely LOVE what I do! I love getting to see the progression from day one, tackling goals, and collectively working together towards them
